Fossil Free Politics
Between 2015-2026, the fossil fuel industry spent $528 million on California political spending outspending every other sector by 50%. Western States Petroleum Association and Chevron outspent every other company by nearly double during this same period.
The fossil fuel industry is rigging prices and using their increased profit margins in part to buy politicians and defeat much needed climate policy. Taking the pledge is a way for politicians to publicly distance themselves from the fossil fuel industry’s immoral political power, and to help establish a clean norm where fossil fuel industry money does not disproportionately shape public policy.
The No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge has been signed by over five thousand politicians across the country, including former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge
“I pledge not to take contributions over $200 from oil, gas, and coal industry
executives, lobbyists, and PACs and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.”
We target candidates running for elected office all over California including: governor, state Senate and Assembly, and currently sitting state Senators and Assembly members who have not taken the pledge, and with at least a C grade environmental voting record.
